Last weekend I found myself reflecting on my life journey so far. It was a long weekend in Namibia, so I had plenty of time to simply sit with my thoughts. Anyway, I spent quite a bit of time thinking about my career trajectory and the highs and lows I've experienced to get to where I am today.

One thing is for sure, it's been a humbling journey, unbearably tough at times, but a consistent learning experience through personal lessons,, mentorship and sometimes from (unsolicited) advice from people. Here are some of my mainstays:

Tip #1 - Be decisive

Learn to make decisions quickly. Apply your mind, and then take swift action, especially when others are counting on you for direction.

Tip #2 - Others don't think like you

Never assume that people automatically know what your expectations are. Be clear about what you want and how you want it done.

Tip #3 - Always be prepared

This means stay focused on your work. Understand your role, immerse yourself fully in it and educate yourself because you never know when an opportunity will come knocking on your door.

Tip #4 - Always keep your side clean

Regardless of what's going on around you or even how unfairly you think you're being treated, always do the right and act with integrity.

Tip #5 - Don't forget to live

You're not your job, you're not your title. You're a multidimensional being with different interests. Don't deprive yourself the opportunity to enjoy the full human experience.

Never stop learning

We live in an ever evolving world that requires agility and and adaptable mindset. To keep growing in your career, one must be intentional about continuously learning and empowering yourself with the skills and knowledge that are are aligned with your aspirations.

I would love to hear your experience. What the best career advice that you've received. Please share in the comments section section.
